Completed board-formed retaining wall below the finished student-housing building — Berkeley Student Housing Foundation, Berkeley, CA
Overview

A major milestone for New Edge Concrete — our first foundation for a luxury student-housing development near UC Berkeley, steps from California Memorial Stadium. We built the full basement foundation for a premium dormitory: custom reinforced concrete walls, structural floors, and the foundation system that carries the building above. The job ran through the COVID-19 pandemic, so we worked to strict safety protocols while holding the schedule — excavating roughly 400 cubic yards of soil and installing about six tons of reinforcing steel. It opened the door to a lasting client relationship and several projects that followed, making it one of the most important jobs in our company's growth.

Scope of work

  • Large basement excavation
  • Custom reinforced concrete walls
  • Structural floors & foundation system
